In all fairness, pellet gun laws is a fair question. Years ago, I decided to wage war on the squirrels in my yard, and I was acquainted with a cop at the time, so I asked him about the legality of shooting them with a pellet rifle. (ain’t legal in city limits, but I did it anyway)

just surprised you have laws for pellet guns over there... pellet guns can be sold to anyone over here...pretty much the only gun you can easily aquire

Oh, I wasn’t thinking of that. I don’t know what it takes to buy one--mine was a gift.

I’d venture that most cities and towns do have statues about air rifles . There usually isn’t much in the way about purchasing or possessing them (I think kids can go buy them in most places), but discharging them within city/town limits is usually frown upon.

welp...i grew up in the sticks... nobody cared there
but now.... i better buy a really cheap one and start a betting pool on how long it takes before the nimbys try to have me arrested for shooting toy soldiers in me back yard

i feel like this would be terrifying wh ether or not you knew the person. If I woke up and my wife was just standing there at 2a.m. i’d probably shit the sheets.

I coach a junior smallbore & air rifle league, and we shoot a lot of fancy schmancy european guns (mainly Anschutz & Feinwerkebau) and as a by-product of that I’ve become somewhat familiar with the laws in Europe and the UK
. The pellet guns you are referring to that
anyone can buy are limitedin power
to 5 Joules of energy. They sell the same kinds of things here in the US in WalMart, etc. But t
here are pellet guns that can produce substantially more power
, some exceeding 500 Joules, the same amount of energy as a .40 caliber (10mm) handgun. My understanding is that everywhere else those are regulated just like actual firearms
, but here in ‘Murica if it doesn’t fire a bullet from a metallic cartridge, it ain’t a gun and therefore not regulated.

I had a pump pellet gun as a child that would kill a gopher at 30 yards. 0.177 inch pointed pellets.

The adult version is stacking up beer cans and plinking them out of the shop door. It’s a big hit during shop parties.

While at college I lived in a little one room cottage. Tech nically they were standing in the kitchen, but they were only about 8 feet from my bed and it freaked me right out at 4:00 AM or thereabouts. Turned out they were looking for the house next door.
